Three weeks ago i finally hit rock bottom, i lost my my paycheck for the sixth consecutive time and with a full-time job was living below the poverty line. My gambling started when i turned 18 in the pub with a few mates on the pokies having a bit of fun, but that fun soon turned into a addiction, and i have lost up until this point about $100k+ in gambling in two years. Every pay check was for gambling and im currently in debt $26,000.
Poker was my card game of choice, and when there is poker game on i loved to drink and forget all my problems.I kept coming back for more and more to escape my problems in life. Lying, cheating and stealing off friends and family became a means to gamble so i did it and slowly started loosing some of my best friends and my self respect.
3 weeks ago i finally decided to pick up the phone and call GA on 1800 858 858 and they referred me to a problem gambling clinic which is helping me get my life back together and repair whats left of my relationships. I don't regret it one bit as gambling has taken over my life and i need to beat this addiction!
It's a hard road ahead, but what sort of life is working 40 hours a week to feed the 5 Dragons machine?
I really hope this story helped some people out there, just remember its never to late to reach out for help.
